TRANSCRIPT: The Director’s Chair (August 2019)

EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is a [slightly updated] transcript of segments from The Director’s Chair, which originally was published/emailed to OSDA coaches on August 15.

Dear OSDA Coach:

Welcome back to another season!

I hope you have had a relaxing and rejuvenating summer. With our annual coaches’ meeting [days] away, I wanted to preview some of the important issues we will be addressing in Wooster [this] weekend and go over a few reminders regarding OSDA registration.

The meeting agenda and invoice are available at the conference page on our website.

As you will see from the agenda, we plan to address some important changes for this year, including those involving debate and the development of ethical standards. Additionally, I will be meeting with each district to go over registration protocols and changes for this season, and to address particular district needs. You are welcome to complete your registration at the conference during these sessions; however, if you wish to register before our meeting, you are welcome to log in to your SpeechWire account and complete the required fields at the OSDA registration link.

Please remember to register each school separately and with a separate email address.

Two things will be generated upon registration. The first is an invoice that you may use to generate payment. High school membership is $125.00, and middle school membership is $50.00. Please make checks payable to OSDA. If your treasurer requires an updated W-9 to process payment, one is posted at the Join page on the OSDA site.

The second generated item is new this year: an email will be automatically sent to school administrators informing them of your registration, describing our competitive season, and reminding them of supervision requirements at tournaments. I ask that you accurately and completely fill out information for every coach on your team. Please do not have students access or manage your SpeechWire accounts.

New programs may wish to access these resources to apply for new school grant or membership-fee waiver. Feel free to contact me with any questions you have. Again, I will review this information during our afternoon district sessions at the coaches’ meeting.
